The 30th Inter-School Staff Badminton Tournament for ladies and gents was organized once again by St. Thomas’ College with the finals being played on 11th December 2015. This tournament was started in the year 1986 when Mr. R. V. Gardner felt the need of getting the staff of various schools to interact with each other as they were busy in their own schools throughout the year and hardly interacted with each other. So organizing a Badminton Tournament was what he thought of. Perhaps he himself wouldn’t have known at that point in time how popular this tournament would grow over the years and how many schools would look forward to participate in this tournament year after year. St. Thomas’ is the only school in Dehradun that provides such an opportunity to the staff of various schools.
The Chief Guests for the evening were Mrs. Meenakshi Saxena, Principal, Touchwood School, who graced the occasion by her presence.
The finalists in the women’s category were Carman School Dalanwala, and St. Thomas’ College. The match was breathtaking but finally Carman School, Dalanwala proved its mettle and won the championship.
In the men’s category it was a clash between St. Thomas’ College and St. Jude’s School. St. Thomas’ College won the tournament in this category. Celebrations of victory were followed by the speeches of the Chief Guest Mrs. Meenakshi Saxena and a vote of thanks by the host, Mr. R. V. Gardner.
The evening concluded with a lavish Tea which was enjoyed by one and all present with promises of meeting again next year that is on centenary year.
